Arts council holds first concert for 2022-2023

Twin Flames were the first performers in the Kindersley and District Arts Council 2022-2023 line up. Chelsey and Jason, a husband and wife duo, did not disappoint their audience. The stage was filled with flutes, drums and four guitars, which they used in their performance.

Blending Indigenous and western instruments, as well as their own unique creations, the couple proceeded to sing in three different languages - French, English and Inuktitut. They also taught the audience a few words in their native language. They added a bit of humour into their performance, which the audience enjoyed. Jason said he was thrilled to see his first tumbleweed in Saskatchewan.

Their music has won numerous awards including The Canadian Folk Music Award and Aboriginal Songwriters of the Year. Their songs tell stories, and are inspired by various situations. “When you sit in a room with three hundred people who are missing a daughter, aunt, mother, sister, or aunt, it changes your perspective,” Chelsey said. As a result they wrote a song for the missing ones.

This was their sixth performance out of seventeen, as they continue to build bridges across cultures and styles of music.
