Eston Ramblers eliminated in Provincial C finals

The Eston Ramblers put up a fight, but ultimately couldn’t fend off the Kenaston Blizzards this weekend.

They were blanked 2-0 in the Senior C Division finals series, and the Blizzards took the provincial divisional title.

Ramblers player Cam Oliphant said it was a tough defeat, but the team can hold their heads high.

“It’s always tough losing. But they’re a good team. Our effort was there, and our guys played hard. I’m proud of them,” he said.

Saturday’s elimination game saw them fall 11-7 to their rivals. The game was hard-fought, but many factors led to the conclusion.

“They’re just so offensively amazing. Their transition game is great. They play a good system,” he said. “If you leave their players open and give them an opportunity, they make you pay.”

The Kenaston team also managed to take the SVHL League win, in a bid against Kyle, who had earlier eliminated to Ramblers in the semis.

This was Kenaston’s back-to-back SVHL championship win, and Oliphant says they’re a hard team to play against overall.

“They’re a very skilled team. Their forwards can score and they work hard. They also play well defensively. It goes a long way,” he said.

Oliphant says the Ramblers did well overall as a whole, but there were some things – both good and bad – that stuck out.

“Our young guys took a huge step forward. We have good leadership, and the work put in was just absolutely huge. People lead by example,” he said.

As the squad looks toward the future, Oliphant is excited about the 2023/2024 campaign.

“There should be a good bunch coming back. It’s tough to take when you come from a loss to consider next year, but there’s some excitement,” he said.
