Eston School creates Multicultural Inclusion Committee

Eston Composite School has recently created a committee to promote active inclusion of community members from every cultural background in both the school and community network. The committee is part of their School & Learning Improvement Plan, and their goal is for students, families and community members to gain awareness, learn from and celebrate the many cultures that make up Eston’s unique community.

Laura Holt, who teaches math and science, said the school sent a letter home to families and community members in Eston, explaining the initiative, and distributed an online cultural survey. They have created an area in their school to celebrate the diversity that encompasses Eston Composite School, students and community.

The survey is a tool to gather information from adults of all school-aged children, as well as adults in the community. By completing the Multicultural Inclusion Survey, the committee is ensuring, both school and community are all-encompassing in their celebrations.

The staff will use the information collected to educate the students and community about the rich cultural diversity that exists in Eston.
