Former Klipper's captain nets uni Rookie of the Year award

Kindersley product Jaxon Georget was honoured with a Rookie of the Year honour for his freshman outing with the University Of Alberta's Augustana hockey club.
Georget – the Klippers captain in 2021-2022 – notched five goals and nine assists in 21 games for the Augustana Vipers.
"It was just such an honour. I couldn't be happier about it. I couldn't have done it without my teammates," he said.
"I got here and just got right into the swing of things. It felt really good, and I was enjoying my experience from the start. I was well-coached, and the guys on the team were great.”
It helped Georget to get to the school and see a familiar face on the ice. His teammate Kyle Ford played for the Klippers in 2020-2021 and enjoyed his second frame with Augustana this year alongside Georget.
"Knowing someone going into it really helped. Having Kyle show me the city, bring me around and help me out was amazing," he said.
While the Klippers' luck hasn't been the best this season, Assistant Coach Tyler Traptow has been watching Georget's progress, and he's happy for his friend and former teammate.
"I didn't coach Jaxon, but I played with him for a year, and he was great," he said. "It was awesome. He came in as a rookie, and he was awesome. He had a lot of energy.”
"He didn't play a ton as a rookie, but you always knew what you'd get from him. We knew when he got confidence, he'd be a great player. He's salt of the earth, and I wasn't surprised he was named captain.”
He said even in his first year, Georget had a way of making those around him feel like part of the team.
"When you're younger as a rookie, you're not as vocal. You learn from the guys, but he was a sponge. He always did what he was asked," said Traptow. "Even the rookies looked up to him as a rookie, and he was well-respected.”
Traptow is happy that Georget has been honoured for his rookie season by the Augustana Vikings club.
"That's so awesome. He came to town a few times this year and told me he loved it there. It's just so great. It's a testament to his hard work and skill," he said.
Georget will soon be joined at Augustana by Brayden Koch, who finished his year with the Klippers this year.
"Brayden is just an amazing guy, and he's so good on the ice. He's going to be a great addition," said Georget. "I captained him, and then he ended up captain the next year. It'll be a great second season.”
