Fox Valley’s new hall is going up fast!
By Joan Janzen
A Fox Valley committee of ten members has been planning and fundraising for a new community hall for the past seven years, and now they are seeing the results of their hard work. Zac’s Building Group from Hague, Sask. began construction of the building in mid-April and completed the hall’s exterior shell on May 17th.
Dwayne Schneider, one of the committee members, described the time line of the building process. The work kicked off on April 18th, when the ground was levelled, the sewer was dug, and water lines were installed, he said. After that the forms for the foundation were built.
“On April 26th we poured the cement footing and pilings,” he explained. “Then SaskPower had to come in and remove a street light and move a power line that goes to the SaskTel building.”
The month of May started off with approximately 600 yards of gravel being hauled in to fill in the floor base. “On May 4th construction of the building began,” he said. By the end of the following day, all the walls were up. The rafters went up on May 9th and 10th, in spite of a thunder storm, rain and hail causing the work to be delayed. The metal roof went up on May 11th, and windows were installed the following day.
Dwayne said the next step is to finish water and sewer lines to the right locations and then pour the cement floor, after which work on the interior will begin. The projected completion date was estimated to be in October of 2023, but Dwayne is optimistic it may be sooner.
“Zac’s Building Group is doing an amazing job and quick work of the building,” he said. “We were thinking it would be operational by October, but the way these crews have been working, I think it might be earlier. But time will tell.”
