The Town of Luseland is currently amending its Animal Control Bylaw. We will be adding felines to the registration process. Cat owners will now have to register their pets just as dog owners have for years. We discussed the idea of using monies from pet registration to help deal with stray animal control, as well. Stay tuned for an updated bylaw very soon.
The Luseland Community Hall will soon be having its first show of the season, since the theatre equipment has been moved over. The date for the first movie has been set for Friday, October 27th, 2023. Please stay tuned for more information regarding what movie will be playing.
Residents will notice much activity happening out at the Luseland landfill. The Town had received monies under the ICIP grant towards the decommissioning of the landfill. We are currently doing some clay covering and work required as part of the phasing out of the use of the landfill. Once this is completed, the landfill will be a dedicated transfer station. Nothing will change in terms of weekly garbage collection and we have already had LORAAS containers at the landfill and operating as a transfer station for some time.
The Town of Luseland would like to welcome new councillor Ryan Bazylinski to our team. Ryan was elected in the towns most recent by-election. He was sworn in at the September council meeting and we are excited to have our council positions filled once again.
Trach Power Skating & Skills was in Luseland on October 13th to 15th, 2023 to run a skating and skills hockey camp at the Luseland Memorial Arena. Hockey Sask will also be at the Luseland arena to run a camp on October 20th to October 22nd. We are very excited to kick off the hockey season with lots of upcoming activities. The Luseland Mallards will also kick things off with an exhibition game on Friday, October 20th against Unity in Luseland and then go to Biggar on Sunday, October 22nd for another exhibition game. Stay tuned for more details on when their regular season will begin. There have also been some substantial rink upgrades being made over the off-season, with the penalty boxes being moved and a new sound system installed. The Rink Improvement Committee has been very busy and we’d like to thank them for their dedication towards keeping our arena viable and sustainable into the future.
The Town of Luseland is part of the KLD (Kerrobert and Luseland District) hospital foundation. The KLD is planning a mini hospital lottery in order to continue to raise funds to support health care in our communities. In the past few years the KLD has supported the development of the helipad at the hospital, the boiler replacement and asbestos removal at the Pioneers Haven and most recently the purchase of four new hospital beds as well as vitals monitors for Kerrobert EMS. Stay tuned for more details on the lottery very soon.
The Town of Luseland would like to thank the Luseland Credit Union for their $3,500 donation to cover the cost of new umbrellas for the picnic tables at the Luseland Credit Union Swimming Pool. In addition to the one donated by the Luseland Canada Day Committee in July they have been all replaced and will help to offer some sun protection and shade when visiting the pool and spending the day. We are most thankful to the generosity of our various businesses and organizations in Luseland who always step up to the plate to help support our recreational facilities.
