Loverna in the 1950s

This aerial photo of the village of Loverna was taken some time in the 1950s and was posted by Brian Towe on Historic Saskatchewan’s Facebook page. Situated in western Saskatchewan close to the Alberta border, the village began to develop when a rail line was built west of Coleville in 1912. The Loverna post office opened that same year; Thomas Wilson was the first postmaster. Loverna was named after the daughter of W.K. McFarland, who was an early settler.
