Luseland Library News: Spring is officially here

Updates from the Librarians

Spring is officially here at the Luseland Library! To celebrate, we will be finishing up the renovations in the back room that will allow us to host community events, as well as facilitate bigger and messier library programs! Enjoy our newly upgraded Children’s Area with a variety of activities and furniture, specially designed for our young patrons. Whether you’re reading a book or engaging in some imaginative play with our train set, the library is the place to be. For adults, help yourself to a coffee, tea, or hot chocolate from our coffee bar while you peruse our shelves and take in the incredible work in our gallery.

I am also pleased to announce that we have a new casual Assistant Librarian, Jean Halliday. Jean is a fixture of the Luseland community and she will be a wonderful addition to our team. Be sure to stop in and say hello when you see her in the library!

Programs

Sip & Stitch

Every Tuesday from 4-6, come over to the Library to work on knitting, crocheting, cross stitching, or whatever kind of project you’re working on. Enjoy some tea or coffee from our cafe bar and make some art!

DIY Seashell Windchimes

Thursday, April 11 @ 5pm, join us for an adults-only evening making a beautiful, one-of-a-kind seashell windchime. All materials will be provided, but space is limited. Please register for this event by messaging the library.

Neighbourhood Forest Tree Program

The Neighbourhood Forest tree program will be delivering free saplings this month for those who registered. If you are interested in planting your own tree but missed the cutoff for registration, we will have extra trees available. Please send a message to the library to reserve your tree! One per family, please, as they are limited. Trees will be available for pick up the week of April 22nd.

Saturday Matinee - The Lorax

Saturday, April 20 @ 1:30-3:00pm, join us as we celebrate Earth Day by watching The Lorax, the animated classic based on the Dr Seuss story and starting the voice talents of Danny DeVito, Betty White, and Ed Helms. The movie is rated G, for all audiences. Snacks and juice will be provided, but feel free to bring your own! As always, this screening is free!

A Noisy Nest Story and Craft

Saturday, April 27 @ 1:30-2:30, join us as we learn about different kinds of nests, then build your own noisy nests to take home. This will be a great, hands-on creative event!

Luseland Library Art Gallery

With the wonderful reception of our current show, Shipmates, we are extending the show for an extra two weeks, with April 13th being the last day. Make sure to stop in before our next exhibition goes up!

The next show will feature the creative talents of two artists you already know - Cait Jahner and Kate Hughes. That’s right, the town’s assistant administrator and our head librarian are joining up to showcase their multimedia work for a show called Clay & Kraft. The show will open on April 16. Be sure to stop in and check it out!

Take & Make Kits

  • Sock Bunnies: Pick up a Take & Make kit to make a cute sock bunny, just in time for spring!

  • Spinning Earth: In honour of Earth Day, pick up a kit to make a spinning mobile Earth!

That’s all for this month! We’ll see you at the Library!

All the best,
Kate, Rita, & Jean
