Making music to brighten someone’s day

By Joan Janzen

Every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evening, volunteers assemble at the FoodMesh distribution centre, located at 800, 12th Avenue East in Kindersley. The food is unpacked, taken out of the cooler and displayed, ready for the shoppers to come in and select what they need.

But on Thursday evenings, the volunteers and shoppers also get to enjoy a bit of free musical entertainment, thanks to Jonathan Bloomfield. Jonathan and his wife Nicole live in Coleville, but every Thursday evening after their work day is done, they come to help volunteer at FoodMesh. Nicole helps in the kitchen, while Jonathan pulls up a chair in the hallway, and begins strumming his guitar and singing old, familiar classics. Occasionally he’s accompanied by Aaron Malcolm, a volunteer from Kerrobert.

Although every year, February 17th is designated as Random Act of Kindness Day, every Thursday you’ll find Jonathan giving of his time and talents to help brighten someone’s day.
