Riding High - Canadian Cowboys Association Finals Rodeo Event is a Success!

Submitted by Lenora Bells

The Canadian Cowboys Association Finals Rodeo took place in Swift Current, SK, Kinetic Park, Magnus Newland Arena September 24-26, 2021.

The 2021 Canadian Cowboys Association Finals Rodeo Committee, comprised of members from the City of Swift Current, Swift Current AG & Ex and the Canadian Cowboys Association, extend a hearty, grateful thank you to all the rodeo fans, volunteers, staff, crew, officials, sponsors, stock contractors, rodeo committees and all the competitors for another successful finals event.

All good things come to an end, and so it was with the Canadian Cowboys Association Finals Rodeo. The 3-day event was highlighted by 94 top-ranked cowboys and cowgirls from the CCA 2021 seasonal rodeo year. The 7 major rodeo events featured: Bareback Riding, Steer Wrestling, Saddle Bronc, Tie-Down Roping, Barrel Racing, Team Roping and Bull Riding plus the newly added Break-away Roping. Novice Bareback, Novice Saddle Bronc, Novice Bull Riding, Junior Steer Riding, and Junior Girls Barrel Racing events added even more enthusiasm. Throughout the 4 rodeos, exciting bronc riding, bull busting, roping, steer wrestling and barrel racing resulted in presentations of the much-coveted championship buckles.

New community events were added to this rodeo finals. The City of Swift Current and the Swift Current AG & EX organized and presented the ‘The New Frontier Fall Fair’. Visitors were welcomed to take in the Food Truck Wars; Ranchman’s Ridin’ and Rectin’ – which included a Junior Stockman’s Livestock, Livestock Pen show, and cowboy poetry; and the 5th annual Southwest Showcase Tradeshow of venders continued to provide a variety of shopping experiences.

The COVID-19 pandemic brought all the good planning of our committees to a halt, and our sanctioned rodeos were faced with a challenge. We moved ahead into the 2021 Finals Rodeo. Our Finals Rodeo Committee took great care to follow covid19 guidelines, masking indoors, reminders of social distancing, hand washing and sanitizing and cancelled the indoor cabaret.

We survived the year thanks to the additional supports from the federal wage/rent subsidy, grants from Saskatchewan Tourism and our valuable sponsorship partners. Sponsors are a key component, and are enormously appreciated. Be sure to check out the sponsors listed on the City of Swift Current, Canadian Cowboys Association and Swift Current Ag & EX websites.

Swift Current offered the best in Western hospitality. Thank you to all!
