North Battleford RCMP officers recall dramatic and dangerous rescue of residents trapped in apartment building fire - “The fire was just burning so much. Like, it was just blazing. And people had to get out of the building and we had to figure out a way to get them out of there.”

Ongoing missing person investigations. Saskatchewan RCMP continues to ask for public assistance locating the following missing individuals:

May 16: At approximately 11:20 p.m., Rosthern RCMP received a report of a vehicle/pedestrian collision which occurred approximately 1 km north of Duck Lake in the northbound lane of Highway #11. The pedestrian, a 24-year-old male from Saskatoon, was declared deceased on scene by local EMS. The adult female driver of the vehicle remained on scene and was transported to Rosthern Hospital for what were reported to be non life-threatening injuries. Preliminary investigation has determined the pedestrian was wearing dark coloured clothing while walking down the middle of Highway #11 when he was struck by the northbound vehicle. The family of the deceased has been notified of his death. Traffic on Highway #11 was rerouted for approximately 4 hours. The investigation is ongoing with the assistance of a Saskatchewan RCMP Collision Reconstructionist and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service.

May 16: On March 27, 2022, Rosthern RCMP received a report of a shooting on Beardy’s and Okemasis’ Cree Nation. Officers located an injured male on a road in the community. Despite life-saving efforts, the male was later pronounced deceased at the scene. He has been identified as 22-year-old Cody Tait from Saskatoon. On May 16, 2022, Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crime Unit investigators arrested and charged Precious Gamble (DOB: 1999-07-30) from Beardy’s and Okemasis’ Cree Nation with one count, second degree murder, Section 235(1), Criminal Code. She will next appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court on May 26 at 10:00 a.m. Four other individuals have also been charged in relation to Tait’s death. May 18: Charges laid in La Ronge Suspicious Death Investigation

May 21: Carrot River RCMP: requesting public assistance after serious assault. On May 21, 2022, at approximately 5:45 a.m., Carrot River RCMP received multiple reports of a serious assault which occurred at a residence on the Shoal Lake Cree Nation. An adult female was transported to local hospital for treatment of what are believed to be serious injuries. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact Carrot River RCMP at 306-768-1200 or Crime Stoppers.

May 22: a report of a break and enter to a rural property east of Meadow Lake was reported to police. Investigation revealed the incident occurred sometime between May 15th and May 22nd, 2022. A residence and outbuildings on the property were damaged and several items were taken including a trailer, motorcycle, hot tub, old sewing machines, several tools and a rare motorboat with trailer.

The rare motorboat is described as an orange 1984 Targa with a red trailer, serial number NS0F0020M840. A photograph is attached.

Officers continue to investigate the incident with the assistance of North Battleford RCMP Forensic Identification Services.

May 23: Wollaston Lake RCMP investigating after male located injured. In the early morning hours of May 23, Wollaston Lake RCMP received a report of a male lying outside on a driveway at a residence on Hatchet Lake First Nation. Police officers responded and the 34-year-old male was determined to be injured. He was transported to hospital with what were described as serious injuries. Wollaston Lake RCMP continues to investigate the incident with the assistance of Prince Albert and Saskatoon General Investigation Sections.

May 23: Loon Lake RCMP arrests man with warrant issued for arrest - In the early morning hours of May 23, 2022, Cherokee Cantre was located and arrested by Loon Lake RCMP. There was a warrant issued for Cantre’s arrest on August 25, 2021. He was charged with multiple new charges after an incident that occurred November 4, 2021 on Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation including flight from peace officer, dangerous operation of a conveyance, operation while prohibited and resist arrest. In November 2021, officers attempted to approach Cantre after it was determined he was in a vehicle in the community, but he fled in the vehicle at a high rate of speed – in close proximity to an elementary school.

Cantre will appear in Loon Lake Provincial Court on May 24, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. Loon Lake RCMP wants to thank the public for their assistance with this six-month long investigation.

The Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit notes increase in reports of extortion. Investigation has determined that in most cases, a youth becomes connected with the suspect on social media, then is asked to send intimate images. Once they do, the suspect will demand money or information or they will release the images on social media or to loved ones. For more information, as well as online safety tips, visit here.

The Saskatchewan ICE Unit is made up of investigators from Saskatchewan RCMP, Prince Albert Police Service, Regina Police Service and the Saskatoon Police Service. Its mandate is to investigate crimes involving the abuse and/or exploitation of children on the Internet.
