Take the keys or potentially lose the vehicle. With spring seeding underway, the Saskatchewan RCMP is reminding farmers about the potential for vehicle theft. Even on a rural road far from town, the potential still exists for a vehicle to be stolen. If you leave a personal vehicle (pick-up, SUV, car, etc.) on an approach or in a field while you’re on the tractor, make sure you lock your doors and remove all keys. While it might be handy to leave a set “just in case” someone you know needs to move the vehicle, it also can be handy for others passing by. Remember: thieves know where to look for “hidden” keys. The same principle applies to your tractor and other machinery – never leave keys nearby if you are not physically with the vehicle. Last year in Saskatchewan, at least 29% of stolen vehicles had keys inside. You can help prevent theft by taking all keys with you.
