Saskatchewan RCMP respond to two fatal motor vehicle collisions Friday night
The Saskatchewan RCMP responded to two fatal motor vehicle collisions last night - Friday, July 2.
Shortly after 9 p.m. last night, Southey and Watrous RCMP responded to a report of a single vehicle rollover approximately 2.5 kms west of Highway #20 on “Lake Road,” the entrance road to Last Mountain Regional Park. Initial investigation indicates the vehicle was travelling westbound when it lost control and subsequently rolled into the ditch north of the road.
Nokomis Fire Department, EMS from Watrous and Lanigan and STARS Air Ambulance also responded to the collision.
The 18-year-old female driver of the vehicle was declared deceased on scene. The four other occupants of the vehicle sustained injuries that were described as being non-serious in nature.
An RCMP Collision Reconstructionist was present to conduct an investigation, which is continuing in conjunction with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service.
The scene was cleared in the early morning hours on Saturday.
On Friday, July 2, Indian Head RCMP responded to a call about a collision between a semi and a pickup truck that occurred along Highway #1 just east of Qu’Appelle, SK. Qu’Appelle Fire Department and Indian Head EMS also attended.
The 74-year-old male driver and sole occupant of the pickup truck was declared deceased at the scene. No injuries were reported to have been sustained by the driver of the semi.
Initial investigation indicates the eastbound semi and northbound pickup collided, resulting in both vehicles leaving the roadway and coming to rest in the ditch south of Highway #1.
A portion of Highway #1 was closed and traffic diverted while officers, an RCMP Collision Reconstructionist and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service investigated. The highway has since re-opened to motorists. No charges are anticipated.
