Saskatchewan RCMP - Your Provincial Police Service

Saskatchewan RCMP reminds motorists that speeding past emergency workers is dangerous – and illegal.

Saskatchewan RCMP ticketed 192 drivers in June alone for failing to slow down when passing an emergency, highway maintenance, tow or construction vehicle with lights flashing.

One of them drove 104 km/hr past a Prince Albert Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan officer, who was positioned in a construction zone on Highway #2, outside of Anglin Lake. Multiple construction workers and vehicles with their lights flashing were working in the area. The driver received a ticket for exceeding 60 km/hr passing highway equipment with warning lights in operation, Section 203(1)(c), Traffic Safety Act, resulting in a $1075 fine.

A reminder: you must slow to 60/km an hour when passing:

  • a police or emergency vehicle stopped at the side of the road with its lights flashing;

  • Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure machinery or equipment stopped at the side of the road with lights flashing; or

  • a tow truck with its lights clashing while it’s assisting a vehicle.

Additionally, drivers must slow to 60 km/hour or the posted speed when travelling in a construction zone.

Saskatchewan RCMP officers actively enforce these rules, which help keep workers and our roads safe, during their regular patrols.
