Share the Warmth Days close with strong community impact

Share the Warmth Days close with strong community impact and 1000 essential bags distributed.

SaskEnergy is wrapping up its Share the Warmth Days with more than 1000 bags of essential items distributed to people in need across Saskatchewan. Share the Warmth Days events recognized various charitable organizations that have made a lasting impact on vulnerable individuals and families in their communities through initiatives funded by SaskEnergy’s Share the Warmth program.

“The success of Share the Warmth Days is a testament to the dedication of staff and volunteers who came together to connect vulnerable individuals with their communities. By handing out essential items, serving hot meals, and providing important services, they helped ensure that those in need felt supported and cared for,” says Allix Schweitzer, SaskEnergy’s Supervisor of Community Engagement. “We are proud to be wrapping up the Share the Warmth Days with The Circle Project, a Regina-based Indigenous organization that supports individuals and families in need.”

The Circle Project was one of 106 organizations whose project received Share the Warmth grant support this year. With this funding, they were able to purchase mittens, toques, and socks for all ages and genders, making the items available for free at their drop-in center.

“Receiving Share the Warmth funding allows us to continue focusing on our commitment to support people within the community who are in need, especially during the cold winter months when so many face increased hardships,” said Ann Perry, Executive Director for The Circle Project. “We are honoured to be part of the Share the Warmth Day with SaskEnergy, creating awareness around the challenges that many people in our community deal with on a daily basis.”

The other five events were hosted throughout January and February in Saskatoon, Swift Current, Weyburn, Yorkton, and Prince Albert; however, the program’s impact stretched across the entire province, with grants supporting organizations in communities from La Ronge, to Moosomin, and everywhere in between.
Share the Warmth projects taking place throughout the province provide a wide range of services to those in need, including lessons on how to knit and cook nutritious meals, providing transportation services, and supplying winter boots and essential winter gear for children.

In recognition of the program’s 30th anniversary, SaskEnergy invested $100,000 in grants to charitable organizations this year, doubling last year’s total. Since 2012, SaskEnergy has provided over half a million dollars and has supported more than 500 community organizations throughout the province through Share the Warmth grants.
