Summer time fun at Eatonia
By Joan Janzen
It may have been a blazing hot 31 degrees outside, but that didn’t stop the community of Eatonia from having fun playing outdoors. The community held a beach volleyball tournament Wednesday evening, August 2nd, beside the rink in Centennial Park.
A total of eleven co-ed teams began playing at 6:00 p.m. and continued until 11:00 p.m. that evening. The teams of four all registered their teams with their individual and unique names. They included Sets in the 306, Balls Deep, Q Bombs, Pay the Price, The Union, Angels Without Riley, The Eatonia Beach Volleyball Team, Classics, The Sugar Kanes, Ace Holes, and Larock Farms.
Eight committee members organized the league and tournament. The players consist of a wide range of ages, from 15 years and up. The goal of the game was to have fun, and it certainly looked like they were achieving their goal Wednesday evening as the eleven league teams faced off.
The committee members cooked hot dogs and sold refreshments for players and spectators. At the end of the evening, five finalists were victorious, and will go on to compete in the playoffs the following week.
Meanwhile, next door at the outdoor pool, a half dozen ladies were enjoying Aquasizes while youngsters cooled off in the pool.
