Synergy Credit Union Announces Legacy Donation of $100,000 towards CDF Canada

Synergy Credit Union is proud to announce a donation of $100,000 to the Co-operative Development Foundation of Canada (CDF Canada). This contribution will support their initiatives to foster economic prosperity for Ukraine's women and internally displaced persons (IDPs).

This donation is a New Community Credit Union (now Synergy Credit Union) Initiative and was made possible through the successful merger with Synergy Credit Union on January 1, 2023. This donation to the CDF is the first of many that, over the coming months, will add up to one million dollars in support of worthy community initiatives such as CDF Canada.

CDF Canada's Supporting Economic Prosperity for Women and Internally Displaced Persons in Ukraine (SEW Ukraine) project aims to rebuild and promote economic prosperity for 2,200 vulnerable and displaced women. "The humanitarian needs of Ukraine are many," said Glenn Stang, Chief Executive Officer of Synergy Credit Union, "we are honored to support the Ukraine people's resilience through our donation.”

SEW supports women through access to employment, vocational training, workplace integration programs, and ancillary services such as shared childcare facilities. Furthermore, SEW supports women in establishing cooperatives and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, providing them with higher skills and newfound opportunities for long-term sustainability. The funds provided will specifically address issues of food insecurity in Ukraine caused by the war and support agricultural co-operatives.

"This donation is a reflection of the long threads of a tapestry, woven together by over 80 years of shared heritage between Synergy's New Community branch and Ukraine," said Jay Walker, Synergy Credit Union Board Member, "fostering a special relationship that transcends borders.”

The donation to CDF Canada aligns with Synergy's commitment to corporate social responsibility and our belief in the transformative potential of co-operatives. We understand the importance of fostering economic independence and stability, especially in communities affected by conflict and displacement.

"With unwavering dedication and compassion, Synergy Credit Union is steadfastly committed to supporting people during their most challenging times," said Darren Doepker, Senior Manager of Business Advisory Services Synergy Credit Union, and former CEO of New Community Credit Union, "empowering individuals and communities to thrive against all odds.”

Synergy Credit Union encourages other organizations and individuals to join us in supporting CDF Canada's mission to create sustainable change in Ukraine. By working together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of women and IDPs, contributing to their well-being and the prosperity of their communities.
