Three people wanted after violent assault results in death of an adult male

On April 18, 2023 at approximately 12:15 p.m., Battleford RCMP received a report of an assault at a residence on the Saulteaux First Nation. When officers arrived at the residence they located an adult male with serious injuries.  Officers immediately began providing first aid and called for assistance from local EMS. The male was transported to hospital in Saskatoon with serious injuries. The North Battleford RCMP Provincial General Investigation Section (GIS), with the assistance of Saskatoon RCMP GIS, began an investigation.

On April 19, 2023, investigators were advised the injured male would not survive his injuries and Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes deployed to North Battleford and took responsibility for the investigation.

On April 22, 2023, the adult male – Quin Squair, a 22-year-old male from Wilkie, Saskatchewan – was declared deceased in hospital.  Victim services have been made available for the family.

Investigators have charged the following in relation to the death of Quin Squair:

  • 26-year-old Riley Gopher from Saulteaux First Nation:  Second degree murder (s. 235(1) CC) and Robbery (s. 344(1)(b) CC);

  • 17-year-old youth from Saulteaux First Nation:  Second degree murder (s. 235(1) CC), Robbery (s. 344(1)(b) CC), Disguise with intent (s. 351(2) CC), and Unlawful confinement (s. 279(2) CC);

  • 22-year-old Wionna Katcheech from Saulteaux First Nation:  Second degree murder (s. 235(1) CC), Unlawful Confinement (s.279(2) CC;

  • 31-year-old Alex Gopher from Sweetgrass First Nation:  Second degree murder (s. 235(1) CC)

  • 21-year-old, Colton Swiftwolfe from Moosomin First Nation:  Second degree murder (s. 235(1) CC) and Robbery (s.344(1)(b) CC);

  • Riley Gopher and the 17-year-old youth were arrested on April 22, 2023 and made their first court appearance today (April 24, 2023) at 9:30 a.m.

Arrest warrants have been issued for Wionna Katcheech, Alex Gopher, and Colton Swiftwolfe.  Investigators with Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crime, General Investigation Section, North Battleford RCMP Detachment, including the Gang Task Force, and the Saskatchewan Crime Reduction Team continue working to locate and arrest these three individuals.

Wionna Katcheech is described as having long brown hair and eyes.  She 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighing approximately 161 pounds.

Alex Gopher is described as having short brown hair and eyes.  He is 6 feet tall, weighing approximately 220 pounds.

Colton Swiftwolfe is described as having short brown hair and eyes.  He is 5 feet 7 inches, weighing approximately 150 pounds.

The investigation is ongoing.
