Chamber Spotlight: Dennis Welding

By Kevin Martin

Kindersley Chamber of Commerce

When I called Grant Casswell for an interview day and time, I asked him if he would like a coffee. “Sure” he said. “Make it black”. So, I did and then we were off talking about a multitude of topics but mainly focusing on Dennis Welding.

Let us take a trip back to the late 70’s. 1978 to be specific. That’s when Dennis Pendree had the idea to start his own welding business. Dennis started his welding business on his farm with a mobile welding truck. As he got busier and busier with work, he decided that what he really needed was an actual big- ger shop to expand into. Starting small, he shared some space in a shop in Kindersley, and later took over the entire shop to expand business.

Grant, who was working for Dennis at the time, saw the opportunity to get ahead and expand his own welding business. He and Dennis made a deal for Grant to buy out the business. This process began in 2016 and is still proceeding on schedule.

Dennis Welding does many kinds and types of welding. They do pressure piping, pressure vessel welding, structural welding, pipeline, aluminum, and stainless-steel pres- sure piping welding. They also fabricate pressure vessels and have mobile well test separators for rent. The shop and its employees are extremely knowledgeable and have all the re- quired tickets. Mobile trucks also are ready to go and will come to your location to get the job done.

Welding and safety tickets are only valid for short periods, 2 to 3 years, so keeping up on renewals can be a busy job all on its own. Business has been picking up and that’s always a good thing. Dennis Welding currently employs approx. 10 workers being welders, labourers, pipefitters, and 2 office admin.
