The Garden Bug: Cranberries
By Brenda Weaver
Commercially-grown cranberries grow in bogs, but cranberries can be grown on dry land. Determine the pH of your garden soil, as cranberries need a soil pH of less than 5; also, make sure you have very well-draining soil. Cranberry plants need about three months of temps in the 32 - 45 F range to trigger a dormant phase. Fruit of the cranberry plants may appear the year after planting, but more likely the second year depending on the number of pollinators visiting your plantings.
