The Garden Bug: Frankincense

By Brenda Weaver

This fragant substance is harvested from the Boswellia sacra species, also known as the olibanum. This tree is native to Oman, Yemen and Somalia, and has a long history in folk medicine throughout Africa and Asia. In the Bible, it is one of three gifts offered to Jesus by the "wise men." It is said to control bleeding, help heal wounds, fight inflammation, improve oral health, and studies have shown it may even help treat cancer.
