The Garden Bug: Gloxinia
By Brenda Weaver
It's easy to see why this Brazil native has become popular in nurseries, flower shops and garden centers around the world. Gloxinia has bell-shaped, upright flowers that come in a range of striking, cheery colors. It likes bright, indirect light and should be planted in loose, well-draining, slightly-acidic soil.
Feed your gloxinia once a month with houseplant fertilizer diluted to half strength, and keep its soil evenly moist, but not soggy.
