The Garden Bug: Recycling Christmas trees

Pine needles dry quickly but decompose slowly, making excellent groundcover around foliage, especially creeping plants such as strawberries. If you live near a lake or pond and your tree is chemical-free, toss branches into the water to make sheltering habitat for fish. Use branches as "starters" for a firepit.
