The Garden Bug: Trimming Tree Branches
By Brenda Weaver
Remove diseased, broken or “crossing” branches. Remove a competing “leader” at the top. Remove odd and crowded branches, and two growing from one spot. Remove branches growing towards the main trunk or having narrow angles. Remove branches low on the trunk or sweeping down to the ground. Remove roots that girdle the base of the trunk.
