Liebenthal Country Music Hall of Fame returns

After a three-year absence, Liebenthal’s Country Music Hall of Fame returned on April 15th and 16th at the Liebenthal Community Hall. The event began in 2010, with people from the community and the Rec Board making the event happen.
Cheryl Ehresman from the Rec Board, said they are so happy to have the event up and running again. “The Saturday night show is for people who work during the day, and it holds the overflow when our Sunday show sells out,” she explained. There were 170 tickets sold for Sunday’s show, which filled the hall, and 120 tickets were sold for Saturday’s show.

“We have a coach bus that comes out of Medicine Hat for those who want to come but don’t drive or don’t want to drive,” Cheryl said. Those attending on Saturday enjoyed sausage on a bun at the half-time intermission, and Sundays’ guests were treated to a sausage and Schwartie hashbrown supper.

The line-up of entertainment for the two days included fourteen bands or performers, each performing two selections on either Saturday or Sunday. “Many of our performers grew up or live in the Liebenthal area,” she said. They also called on friends from neighbouring communities to help out and donate their time and talent.

The Liebenthal Rec Board planned the event, and community members helped by working shifts and preparing food. “We record food and numbers from year to year, so our planning time has been reduced,” Cheryl said.
