Write Out Loud features Amy Boyes, author of Yes, Miss Thompson

On November 20, Write Out Loud welcomes author Amy Boyes. In her second book, Yes, Miss Thompson (Now or Never Publishing, 2023), Ms. Boyes brings her great-grandmother’s past to life. In 1904, Miss Thompson emigrated with her family from England to the farmland of Manitoba where life was hard. Desperate to escape, she took several rural teaching jobs beginning at age 16, hoping to save enough to go to university. An act of poor judgment followed her through life and her story became one of struggle, inequality, and abuse.

Ms. Boyes is a writer and music teacher in Warman, Saskatchewan. In addition to giving private music lessons, she’s a Royal Conservatory of Music examiner and music festival adjudicator. Her writing has been featured by the CBC, the Globe & Mail, Post Media, the Humber Literary Review, and several music related publications. As a speaker, she’s presented in Canada and the US on such topics as studio management and interpersonal relationships with students.

Her first book, Micro Miracle, explored family, parenting, and teaching.

Write Out Loud is pleased to acknowledge the Voth Family of Swift Current for their sponsorship of this evening featuring Amy Boyes.

Write Out Loud commences November 20 at the Swift Current Lyric Theatre. Admission is $8. Doors open at 6:30. Local musician, Glenna Switzer, will entertain at 7:00, and Ms. Boyes’ presentation will follow.
