The Garden Bug: Pots and hanging baskets
By Brenda Weaver
If you have plants in pots or in hanging baskets, their regular watering and feeding is critical in hot weather - not only for their health in summer but also for a continuously pleasing display through autumn. By mid- to late summer, all of the nutrients will have been taken up or washed out, so some fertiliser sprinkled on the soil and a weekly liquid feed is needed. Insufficient watering may trigger plants to set seed, then curl up and die. If you are going away on vacation, move pots and baskets into a cool, sheltered position and water them thoroughly before you depart.
